Portable WiFi Turkey: The Device, the Box and Daily Use
Before you rent a portable WiFi in Turkey, it helps to know exactly what you will be carrying. This page is about the device itself: what is in the box, how long the battery lasts, how many devices it connects, which network it uses and how to get the most out of it day to day. For how the rental service works across the country, see Pocket WiFi Turkey.

What is in the box
Every StayinWifi rental package contains everything you need, so there is nothing extra to buy:
- The portable WiFi device (modem) with an embedded SIM.
- A power bank for long days away from a socket.
- A charging cable (USB-C or Micro USB).
- An adapter for charging.
Keep the box and all the accessories together: everything is returned at the end of the rental. A fee applies for lost or unreturned items; the details are in our FAQ.
Battery life
The battery lasts 8–10 hours on average. How long it runs on a given day depends on how many devices are connected and what they are doing: a video call drains it faster than checking a map. The included power bank extends that on long sightseeing days, day trips or travel days.
- Charge the device and the power bank overnight at your hotel.
- Switch the device off when everyone is on hotel WiFi or asleep.
- Carry the power bank and cable in your day bag rather than your suitcase.
Up to 6 devices at once
One modem connects up to 6 devices at the same time: smartphones, tablets, laptops, or anything else with WiFi. A couple can connect two phones, a tablet and a laptop and still have room to spare. If your group has more than six devices, book a second modem; the booking form lets you choose how many you need.
Changing your own phone during the trip is no problem either. Any new device simply joins the same WiFi network with the same password.
Network and unlimited data
StayinWifi devices use Turkcell's 4G/5G network and work across Turkey, in cities, hotels, Airbnbs, on beaches and on the move. The SIM is embedded, so there is no card to insert and nothing to activate.
The data is unlimited, with no quota. Like every mobile network, a fair usage policy applies, so speeds may be reduced after excessive use; heavy streaming and remote work are covered in more detail in our guide to unlimited pocket WiFi in Turkey. The device works only inside Turkey.
Setting it up
- Press the power button and wait for the device to find the network.
- On your phone or laptop, open the WiFi settings and choose the network shown on the device's screen.
- Enter the WiFi password displayed on the screen.
- Start browsing. Setup takes just seconds.
There is no app to install and no configuration. Your own SIM stays in your phone, so calls and SMS on your home number keep working; turn off mobile data roaming on your phone so it uses the WiFi instead.
Daily use and security
In practice, the device lives in a pocket or day bag and everyone nearby stays online: maps and ride apps in the street, messaging on a ferry, a laptop in a café. Keep it within easy WiFi range of the people using it, and out of direct sun on hot beach days.
The connection is private and password-protected, and StayinWifi devices use high encryption standards, which makes it a safer choice than open café or hotel networks for banking and bookings.
