TK WiFi and Internet in Turkey: Staying Online After You Land
If you are flying Turkish Airlines, you have probably seen TK WiFi offered for the flight or at the airport. It is handy for a message during the flight, but it is tied to where you are: the aircraft, or the building. The real question for a trip is what happens to your internet in Turkey once you step off the plane. This page separates the two, and shows how to have a connection ready for the rest of your stay.

What TK WiFi is for
Airline WiFi is designed for the journey. Whether it is free, paid or limited on your particular flight depends on the airline's own terms, so check them with Turkish Airlines before you travel. What does not change is the scope:
- On board, the connection belongs to the aircraft and ends when you disembark.
- In a lounge or terminal, the network covers that space and ends when you leave it.
- Neither travels with you to the taxi rank, the hotel or a day trip.
The gap after landing
The first hour in Turkey is when a connection matters most: finding your transfer, opening a taxi or ride app, sharing the hotel address and telling family you have arrived. If you stay in the country rather than connecting onwards, you also need maps, translation and messages for days. Airline WiFi does not cover any of that. Our guide to getting online the minute you land at IST covers that first hour in detail, and the free terminal network is explained in our page on iGA WiFi.
Onboard WiFi vs pocket WiFi
| TK onboard / lounge WiFi | StayinWifi pocket WiFi | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it works | Aircraft or that building | Anywhere in Turkey |
| After you land | Ends | Starts at pick-up |
| Devices | According to the airline's terms | Up to 6 at once |
| Data | According to the airline's terms | Unlimited 4G/5G, fair usage policy |
| Price | According to the airline's terms | From €5.90 per day |
They are not competitors: use the airline's WiFi for the flight if you like, and have a pocket WiFi waiting for the ground.
Think about what you will actually do once you land. A family needs several phones and a tablet online at the same time. A business traveller wants a laptop connected in the taxi and at meetings. A couple heading from Istanbul to other cities wants maps and bookings on the road. In each case the connection has to move with you, which onboard and lounge WiFi cannot do.
Staying connected from arrival to departure
A pocket WiFi is a small router with an embedded SIM. Your phone, tablet and laptop join it like any WiFi network, and your own SIM stays in your phone, so your number keeps working for calls and SMS.
- Unlimited internet on the Turkcell and Türk Telekom 4G/5G networks, all across Turkey.
- Up to 6 devices, so the people you travelled with share one connection.
- 8–12 hours of battery, plus a power bank, cable and adapter in the box.
- Setup takes seconds: switch it on and enter the password on the screen.
The device works only inside Turkey, which is exactly where the airline connection stops.
Where to collect it
Turkish Airlines passengers arriving at Istanbul Airport can collect the device 24/7 with a passport after baggage claim; see the Istanbul Airport pick-up page. StayinWifi also offers 24/7 pick-up and return at Sabiha Gökçen and Trabzon airports, pick-up at our Bursa office, delivery to your hotel or Airbnb, and shipping anywhere in Turkey. All points are on the locations page.
Why reserving before the flight beats sorting it out at the airport is explained in our page on booking Istanbul Airport WiFi in advance.
