Why the Black Sea needs its own plan
A Trabzon trip is rarely a single-city stay. Most visitors combine the city with day trips: the lake village of Uzungöl, Sümela Monastery in the Altındere valley, the highland plateaus (yayla) and the tea-growing coast towards Rize. That means a lot of time in a car or tour minibus, far from hotel WiFi.
- Navigation: winding valley roads are easier with live maps and traffic.
- Bookings on the go: guesthouses, tours and restaurants in the highlands are often arranged by message.
- Translation: outside the city centre, a translation app helps with menus and directions.
- Sharing: one connection for the driver, the passengers and a laptop in the back.
Coverage on the road
StayinWifi uses Turkcell's 4G/5G network across Turkey. As with any mobile network, connection performance depends on the coverage in the area, signal strength and how many devices are connected. In deep valleys and on remote plateaus the signal can be weaker than in Trabzon city, so it is worth downloading offline maps for the most remote stretches before you set off. The device works only inside Turkey.
A day with pocket WiFi around Trabzon
- Morning in the city: check the weather for the highlands and look up opening times before leaving.
- On the way to Sümela or Uzungöl: follow live navigation, message your tour or guesthouse.
- At the lake or plateau: share photos and video calls with family from one device.
- Evening: plan the next day's route while the power bank tops up the device.
The battery lasts 8–10 hours on average, and a power bank is included in the box, which helps on long driving days.

Trabzon trip questions
Does the device work outside Trabzon city?
Yes. It works anywhere in Turkey on Turkcell's network, including the drive to Uzungöl, Sümela and the tea coast towards Rize. Speed depends on local coverage and signal, so expect differences between the city and remote plateaus.
Do I need an app or any settings?
No. Switch the device on and connect your phone to its WiFi network with the password, just like hotel WiFi. If someone in your group changes phones during the trip, the new phone simply joins the same network.
How many people can share one device?
Up to 6 devices can connect at the same time. If your group has more phones, tablets and laptops than that, or you split into two cars for the day, book a second device so each group has its own connection.
Can I pick up in Trabzon and return somewhere else?
Yes. You can return the device at a different point, for example 24/7 at Istanbul Airport or Sabiha Gökçen if you fly home from Istanbul, or have it collected from an address. All points are on the pick-up locations page.
Will my own number still work?
Yes. Your SIM stays in your phone, so you can still receive calls, SMS and bank codes on your home number, subject to your own carrier's roaming terms.
